External hard drives can fail at any time, just like any storage device.
Even though many of us use these drives for backups, they are still just as vulnerable to failure as any other storage device. External hard drives are also often transported more, which can add additional stress to the mechanical components of the drive. On top of that, the enclosures can sometimes cause overheating to become worse as the drive may not have a lot of room to remove hot air. It is important to handle these drives carefully as a result.
Pay close attention to signs of a damaged external hard disk drive.
Signs of a drive that is beginning to failure include write error messages, spontaneous disconnection and reconnect, slow performance, strange sounds or cyclical redundancy errors. When drives show any of these symptoms you may have a chance to back up your data very quickly. If you can’t or if the data is so important you do not want to risk damaging the drive further then we can help.
Envescent has experience recovering data across many brands.
We offer data recovery for HGST, LaCie, Seagate, Toshiba, Western Digital and other external hard drives on USB 2.0, USB 3.0, Firewire, Thunderbolt, eSATA and other interfaces.
We have three phases of data recovery. Prices and turn around times vary depending on the condition of your hard drive and its file system. Encrypted drives, RAIDs, multiple drives and other non-standard configurations may incur extra data recovery fees.
- PHASE 1: If your drive and file system are in relatively good condition and you require a simple data recovery. We can extract and copy data to an external hard drive or another computer the estimate cost is usually about $165.00 to $220.00. This covers removal of malware, minor file system repairs, file permission repairs, etc. The process usually takes about 1-3 business days.
- PHASE 2: If instead your drive has been damaged and it needs advanced data recovery the estimate is usually about $275.00 to $660.00 depending on the amount of damage and how that complicates the process for us. This process usually takes about 1-2 business weeks.
- PHASE 3: Some drives may be extremely damaged and require mechanical data recovery services. This is only about 10% of cases we see. This operation costs $990.00. This process usually takes about 2-3 business weeks.

Envescent gives your data recovery the attention it deserves to give you the best results possible. Every case matters to us because we understand your data is made up of hard (if not impossible) to replace files or time that’s been spent that could be otherwise allocated if the data was made available again.
